Raman Singh meets RSS top brass
Beleaguered Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh, who is battling the “leaked tape” controversy allegedly involving his son-in-law, met senior RSS leaders here on Thursday morning. This meeting comes at a time when speculation is rife in the BJP’s Chhattisgarh unit that the party top brass is considering a change of leadership in the state. The state government secretariat is also abuzz that four senior bureaucrats, considered close to the chief minister, are lobbying for postings with the Central government.
A senior RSS leaders who Mr Raman Singh met is considered close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speculation is also rife that the PMO as well as the RSS top brass is keeping a watch on the developments in the state.
Mr Raman Singh, who was in the national capital for almost three days, also met some Cabinet ministers and the PM, who will launch the rural-urban (rurban) mission in Chhattisgarh on February 21.
The Prime Minister is also expected to lay the foundation stone for an electronic manufacturing cluster and inaugurate a jungle safari.
The scam-hit Chhattisgarh chief minister came under fresh attack recently after a “leaked” audiotape.
While the Congress promptly reacted and expelled Amit Jogi and its central disciplinary committee sought an explanation from Jogi Senior, the BJP is yet to take any action against from its side. The Congress is already gunning for Mr Raman Singh’s resignation and had also attacked the Prime Minister and the BJP leadership over the issue. A majority section within the BJP state unit are of the view that the alleged scams and the “leaked tape” controversy have dented the party’s image and the central leadership needs to take immediate action.
