The ambitious project of “Make in India” took off with the onset of the “biggest investment bazaar” from Ahmedabad’s Mahatma Mandir on Sunday with the international delegates promising to adopt the Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas slogan for inclusive development. The four-month-old “Make in India” initiative aimed to encourage the growth of manufacturing in the country, promises a plethora of investors soon.

In the presence of large conglomerates and leaders from the country and abroad, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lured the participants to create a policy environment that is “predictable, transparent and fair”. In his inaugural speech, Mr Modi asserted that the summit is not just a meeting of ideas, but also of aspirations. He said that various countries are coming forward to work with India and India also wants to work with global leadership on issues ranging from poverty to ecology. The magic of his superlatives charmed the investors, as he announced grand investments and job creation plans. “My government is committed to changing and improving the economic and social condition of the country, including the quality of life,” said Mr Modi.

The United Nations’ Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon referred to the flagship programme as “Gateway to the World”.

Several promising new investors flocked to the birth state of Mahatma Gandhi from the US, UK, Netherlands, Australia, Singapore, South Africa, Bhutan, Japan and China. Over 50 CEOs of top Indian as well as international companies were in the city to attend the event.
