The special investigation team probing the toppers’ scandal in the state arrested Ruby Rai after she failed during her re-examination on Saturday.

Ms Rai was summoned by the BSEB to appear before a team of experts for re-examination on Saturday. Earlier, on two occasions, she couldn’t appear before the board citing health issues.

BSEB sources said, “This was her last chance to appear before the team of experts.”

According to BSEB sources, “The board had cancelled the result of Ruby Rai after they found her unfit and action is being initiated against her.”

The scam came to light when a videoclip showed two toppers — Ms Rai and Saurabh Shrestha — struggling to answer basic questions, putting the entire education system of Bihar in the dock.

Ms Rai, during her interview earlier, had said that her subject political science was about cooking and even pronounced the word political as prodigal.

The SIT had on June 20 arrested former BSEB chairman Lalkeshwar Singh and his wife Usha Sinha, a former JD(U) MLA, from Varanasi in connection with the scam.

Bacha Rai, the alleged mastermind of the scam, was arrested by the SIT earlier in Vaishali. He was the director of Vishun Rai College from where Ms Rai and Mr Shrestha had topped.
