In remarks that could stoke another controversy involving him, Tripura governor Tathagata Roy on Tuesday targeted Pakistani ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali, who is in Kolkata for a concert, saying no people on earth have suffered at Pakistan’s hands as much as Bengali Hindus.

“Paki singer Ghulam Ali in Kolkata. No ppl on earth hv sufferd at Paki hands as mch as Bengali Hindus. Bengalis forget, said Haraprasad Shastri(a noted Bengali linguist),” Mr Roy tweeted.

“On 12 February 1950, all trains crossing the Meghna Bridge at Ashugonj (now Bangladesh) wr stopped, all Hindus stabbed and thrown into river,” Mr Roy said in another tweet.

Organised by the West Bengal minority affairs and madrasa education department, whose minister in-charge is chief minister Mamata Banerjee, the singer performed at the inaugural function of a trade fair organised for small and medium enterprises. Ms Banerjee is also attending the concert at Netaji Indoor stadium.
