Ulfa talks almost in final stage

Sources informed that the ongoing talks with the United Liberation Front of Asom in Assam are almost in the final stage.

Sources informed that the ongoing talks with the United Liberation Front of Asom in Assam are almost in the final stage.

The sources said that the home ministry has agreed to fulfil majority of their demands, which includes tribal status for six communities and safeguarding indigenous Assamese from “demographic invasion”.

About talks with the pro-talk faction of the NDFB, the sources said that attempts have been made to resolve it at the earliest. However, the recent massacre of adivasis in Sonitpur and the Bodoland Territorial Council has delayed the process.

Refusing to divulge the specific points on which the Centre and insurgent groups have agreed, security sources said that details of the agreement would be released with the signing of the peace agreement. Pointing out that there were not many issues left for resolution with smaller ethnic groups, the security sources indicated that it may be signed with the Ulfa and the NDFB by the end of this year.
