The BJP on Wednesday named Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s grandnephew, Chandra Kumar Bose, as its candidate from the prestigious Bhawanipur Assembly constituency against West Bengal chief minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee. After his name was announced, Mr Bose said the “change” for which people had voted TMC to power in 2011 had not come and only the BJP was capable of bringing it.

“Chandra Kumar Bose will be BJP’s candidate against Mamata Banerjee,” Union minister Smriti Irani announced. Party leader in charge of the state Kailash Vijayvargiya and other senior leaders from the state were also present on the occasion at BJP headquarters. Later, the party announced the names of 52 candidates for the coming West Bengal Assembly elections.
