Apropos the recent racist attack on a Tanzanian woman in Bengaluru and three Nigerians in Hyderabad, I want to say that the incidents are detestable and a blot on Indian society. India is a land of diversity and people naturally conclude that this would translate into tolerance. Such incidents tarnish India’s image and the Sanskrit saying “Atithi devo bhava” becomes a colour-coded one.
