The bad man is back in B-town
Bollywood’s bad man Gulshan Grover who had been missing from the scene is making his big comeback with five films in the pipeline. He has Baat Bann Gayi, Bullet Raja, Sooper Se Ooper, Yaariyan and Raqt — Ek Rishta on his list. While Indian actors are increasingly bagging Hollywood projects now, Gulshan was one of the first to make his presence felt there. The actor says getting noticed in Hollywood wasn’t easy. He explains, “I am happy that I paved the mud path and it is being cemented by able actors like Irrfan Khan, Anil Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Mallika Sherawat and others. Once I started doing Holywood projects, people had this illusion that I had shifted base to Hollywood and I lost a lot of projects. The truth is there was pressure to move to Hollywood but I informed the producers I am a known star in my country and I don’t wish to move. When actors like Hugh Grant and Jean Reno can live in England, why should Indian actors be forced to shift Still people assumed I’ve shifted base. Now I have five Bollywood films in hand and I’m excited about this phase.” While Gulshan is all excited about his films, he admits that acting is not what he’d encourage his son to get into. He says, “I grew up in Delhi and my dad always encouraged me to complete my education. Our house is not a filmi one, so I too asked my son Sanjay to complete his education. He graduated from UCLA, Hollywood and is now a bigger celebrity than me. He works at MGM (Metro Goldwyn Mayer).” He reveals that off screen it is the simple pleasures that he enjoys most. “I am passionate about my work and watching good films. I also enjoy reading a lot whenever I manage to find the time, ” says the actor with a smile.
