Celebrating nerd culture
Although Mumbai has quite a crowd interested in all things comics and superheroes, the city has very few events that cater to the crowd, according to self-proclaimed nerd and stand-up comedian, Adhiraj Singh. Wanting to change the fact that the only major comic-related event in the city is the Comic Con, Adhiraj, along with his friends and partners in crime, Navin Noronha and Abbas Momin, have come up with an event for all nerds in the city to unite for a lowdown on all things nerdy — Nerdshala. The first instalment of the event, which will have the theme of Batman versus Superman, is set to take place this evening.
The event is divided into three segments. The first segment will find Adhiraj, Abbas, Navin and their guest for the night, comedian, Utsav Chakraborty, caught in a heated debate on the age-old topic of Batman versus Superman. The second part of the event will be a discussion of recent releases in books, movies and games. “We wanted this part of the evening to be interactive, so the audience will be asked for their opinions also” says Adhiraj. “We will also have a small review session on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” he adds. The third section will once again find the four comedians focusing on the Batman/Superman theme, this time trying to picture what it would have been if these superheroes were a part of the Indian fabric.
The Nerdshala event, the trio hopes, will kick off their plan for a web talk show on all things nerdy. “We wanted to kick off the initiative with a bang and a topic like Batman and Superman is bound to grab people’s attention,” explains Adhiraj. “We are hoping that this will be the first in a series of Nerdshala events. We are also about to launch a Youtube talk show where we will talk about comic books, superheroes, sci-fi movies and so on.”
Nerdshala will take place today, 8 pm onwards at Cuckoo Club, 5AA, Mac Ronells Compound, Next to Candies, Near Pali Hill, St Andrew’s Road, Bandra (W)
