It’s not a dog’s life

Summer can be a tough season not just for the regular folk but also our furry friends.

Summer can be a tough season not just for the regular folk but also our furry friends. So, while you plan a relaxing day out for the family and kids the next time, you could consider letting the canines in your life get a recreational trip out of home too — this weekend.

Come Sunday, Malad will be host to Dog’s Day Out, a carnival aimed to make “pet parents” and their dogs come closer to each other. “Often our pet dogs are restricted to homes because we are so preoccupied with our daily schedule. However, Dogs Day Out will enable every dog lover to assemble and let his or her dog have a playful evening,” says Puneet Varma, associate vice president, head — marketing and corporate communications at InOrbit Mall, where the carnival is to be held.

The carnival’s main aim is to let the pets have a grand evening out. The gig will be host to a grooming corner and a pet café where pets could get a new haircut or fill their bellies. You could also get a caricature of your pet at the fun fair and socialise with other pet owners.

The carnival also aims to use the platform to spread awareness about caring and being responsible for pets. Mumbai Animal Association will be around to conduct a workshop on first response in case of animal accidents. Another workshop by Bayer Pharmaceuticals aims to shed light on Zoonosis, a disease that can be contracted by humans through animals.

An adoption centre is also being set up at the carnival for those who wish to take in puppies and dogs in need of a home. Dog’s Day Out also has a competitive edge where one can enter their pets in a personality contest, where the judges will choose a winner based on the theme and chemistry between the pet and its owner.

Dog’s Day Out will be hosted in the garden next to the parking lot, InrObit Mall, Malad, on April 24, from 4 pm to 9 pm
