Kids, camera and action!
If your child has been bitten by the Bollywood bug, you could help put their love for cinema to constructive use this summer. Baccha Bollywood, a workshop for budding film buffs, is back for a second edition where groups of children will be taught the ropes of filmmaking, culminating in the groups then shooting their own movies.
The 15-day long course will see classes divided between two age groups. Children aged seven to 10 will be called the junior batch and the senior batch will consist of children between ages 11 and 15.
The first edition of Baccha Bollywood saw about 600 children register for the workshop, says Puneet Varma, associate vice president for InOrbit Mall, the host for the event. “Kids loved the first workshop, as did parents. In fact, we had parents enquiring about a new season for Baccha Bollywood for a long time.” Director Amol Gupte was also a part of the workshop last year helping children in their filmmaking journey.
This year, the organisers have bigger plans in store for the workshop. Besides the usual acting, direction and scriptwriting modules, this season will consist of dance, music and film appreciation too. The organisers have promised to rope in local popular artistes and filmmakers in order to make the workshop material more relatable to the participants. The junior and senior batch will be coming together to create a single movie of about 8 to 15 minutes for the mall’s branch.
“We aim to make quality short films this time around,” said Varma, talking about plans for the workshop. “We’re looking at sending our short films to international film festivals; movies made by children these days are much appreciated around the world.” The movies will also be screened in multiplexes and will be uploaded on YouTube. Varma also added that Children’s Film Society of India (CFSI) has been brought on board for the event and each participant will receive a certificate from the organisation.
Baccha Bollywood will commence on May 4 and will be held at InOrbit Mall, Link Road, Malad (W) and InOrbit Mall, Palm Beach Road, Vashi.
