360: The Wellness Festival, a one-day event that focuses on health, hopes to help you get your fitness goals on track.
Imagine starting your day off with a cycling tour of the city, followed by a workout, healthy cooking workshops, a massage, a drumming session and lastly, a stand up comedy session before calling it a day. Nipa Asharam, Soni Sajnani and Pranaya Gidwani have spent the past two months trying to make this a reality. The trio is introducing the first all-day wellness festival, 360 The Wellness Festival, this weekend in a bid to get promote health and fitness in Mumbai.
On offer, is a pilates workshop with instructor Namrata Purohit and her father Samir Purohit; a belly dance workout, community painting, capoeira, pottery workshop, tai chi, drumming and even Spiderman yoga. For those looking at healthy palate options, there are live kitchen workshops and nutritional goodies by Yogisattva, Mo’s Kefir, Gardner Street, Gouri’s, My Mom’s Granola. Varun Thakur will end the evening with his stand up act. There are also wellness subscription boxes up for grabs — four products handpicked by experts to boost health and fitness. Nipa says that the only challenges that the three curators faced was lack of time in their hands. She states, “Since this was our maiden concept, we wanted to get everything perfect. Luckily, the three of us were on the same page. There was so much we wanted to do that we felt we had very little time on our hands.”
Nipa’s decision to kickstart the festival was simple. The idea was to introduce Mumbaikars to a plethora of healthy options. “Getting healthy has always been about following a diet chart and sticking to it. The routine gets monotonous, and can get awfully boring. A lot of people I know go to far off places for wellness festivals because of lack of options here. Getting healthy is a day-to-day commitment but it needn’t be difficult. These events will help people get access to fitness options here to make their wellness routine interesting,” says Nipa, who spent 15 years in the corporate world, before turning her attention to health and wellness.
Nipa explains how a few lifestyle habits can help one get healthier. She explains, “You can always make use of your terrace for yoga or surya namaskar. Cycling in the city is another way to make fitness routines interesting; trekking is another way to be fit. We people in the metros have this horrible habit of locking ourselves up in our rooms. We need to get out on weekends and have fun. These baby steps ensure that you are on the right way to fitness.”
