Art from the heart, three times over
The only thing that is not subjective about an artwork is its subjectivity. Each person has his or her interpretation, which is dictated by their worldview. So picture this: if people of different ideas and expressions come under one roof, what will happen? The answer to this is a potpourri of perspectives, colours and, more so, thoughts expressed on canvas.
To celebrate the individual expressions of three artists, an exhibition called Tres Maestros is being organised at the India Habitat Centre. The space contains the works of Niren Sengupta, Nupur Kundu and Niladri Pal, all presenting examples of representational art.
While artist Niren Sengupta emphasises the texture of solidity of the form, using squared chunkiness, the instant appeal from colour choices, as well as bright and quick placement patterns suggests an entertaining theatricality to the work.
From colours like sombre browns to eye-catching blues, greys, and ochre, the onlooker is drawn towards the central plane of colour blocks. This idea of combination has not only defined the controlled brush but also the technical skills of the artist.
Whereas, Niladri Pal has a simpler version of abstract interpretation. His work showcases a youthful female figure, depicting a strong realistic character.
The stark features of the faces are covered with dubs of pinks and blues, violets and crimson, ably contrasted against a plain backdrop that, too, is dotted with whimsical baubles of colour daubs.
The works of artist Nupur Kundu makes the eye travel into depths as it also expands the vision to take in the panoramic view.
Across this naturally balanced abstract of the imagery, there is a core vision as the centrix, from which the thought process behind the painting has emerged. Thus the viewer of her canvasses is in a partnership with the artist while going through the process of enjoying the works.
The exhibition will be ongoing till July 26.
