Art-lovers in the Capital are in for a treat as a premium art show featuring a cultural renaissance of our times titled Manthan is being organised by the Lexicon Art Gallery at Visual Art Gallery, India Habitat Centre.

The four-day show, Manthan, being held from May 25-28, features the works of both, the legends and newcomers, under the same roof. Some of the artists whose works would be displayed are Satish Gujral, Jogen Chowdhury, Thota Vaikuntam, Vinita Dasgupta, Vishal Joshi, Ashish Tyagi, Gurudas Shenoy, Laxman Aelay, Paramesh Paul, Rabin Mondal, Ramesh Gorjala, Ratan Saha, Sujata Achrekar.

A well thought and curated show of paintings and sculptures with over 100 works on display, it is a cool treat for art lovers in this super hot month of May.

"Manthan is the churning up of ideas, concepts, ideology and coming up with the best in art. It has works from Masters to emerging Masters and from contemporary to tribal artists," says show curator Mamta Nath.

"Manthan is an ingenious platform to find the perfect masterpiece where the best of Indian art is curated by the gallery," says artist Madhuri Bhaduri. "This show has something for everyone be it collectors or first time buyers. The works can be displayed at homes or offices," avers Nath. The period of paintings scales from the 1960s onwards to the present era and a study in the play of colours, treatment and scapes will be an experience at the show. Hence, its Manthan displaying treasures of art, yet affordable and for the art lovers home. While the works are not directly related to events and trends of the era under view, their combined effort at artistry exudes a growing originality and individual expressiveness evident through the works.

Besides providing a glimpse of the era under display, the exhibition has also handpicked some outstanding creations of the time that are worth a special mention. The overall context and scale of the exhibition would hold a special meaning for each visitor.

The diversified nature of the art reveals the vibrancy of art practices of the current times, where this platform for its expose acts as a catalyst of those times. "We are looking forward to this very eventful exhibition as it's a beautiful amalgam of modern and contemporary artworks," says artist Vishal Joshi.

"More so, as The Lexicon Art Gallery at India Habitat Centre is a great platform that helps artists show their talents," adds another artists Gurudas Shenoy.

"I am glad to be able to showcase two of my art pieces. I am happy to be sharing space with some of the best artists in India," she says. "What's better than getting masters and emerging masters work from all walks of life under one roof!!," puts in Paramesh Paul.

Vinita Das Gupta who is showcasing her work Storyteller, Devi, that she created by pasting several pieces of printed and painted canvas cloth, each piece having been cut in a different size, says its takes months of hard work to obtain the desired result. "My work is about shakti, the power within. A female is the epitome of love peace and creation. She is the creator. She is ardhanarishwar, she is Durga. I feel the same inside me," she philosophises.

Some of the exclusive art on display includes Bulls by Sunil Das, that he painted during his travel to Spain back in 1960s, six feet tall sculpted and painted Hands by Ashish Tyagi, sketches by Gouri Vemula that unravel surreal landscapes with mythic figures of gods and goddesses, animals and human figures as well as magical objects and motifs from the natural world, Gond art by Padma Shri Awardee Bhajju Shyam and Jangarh Singh Shyam, in which they have used motifs drawn from nature, from the Gond pantheon, folk tales, and the community's origin myths that are deeply rooted in Indian culture and traditions, fiber casted and painted cow sculpture, a representation of an amalgamation of pure consciousness and energy, by Seema Kohli.
