The SUN and the suits!
Here comes the sun and with it our favourite clothing season, the swim season. As people plan their summer vacays relaxin’ and maxin’ by the pool, we’re first taking a careful look at our current bathing suit inventory. If you’re wearing the same two-piece you’ve had since that family beach trip 10 years ago, you might want to consider an upgrade. And whether there’s an upcoming getaway on your calendar or you’re just looking for some quality lounge chair time, the approaching warm weather months are reason enough to give those suits a refresh. Trendy swimsuits for summers, from criss-cross fronts to printed logo swimwear that have become super trendy over time. We ask fashion experts their opinion on it.
Fashion blogger Niti Ayog says, “We have all prepared endlessly for that perfect summer beach body but what comes with it are the new trendy swimsuits that go beyond the two-piece or the floral print. My personal favourite is the Bandeau swimsuit that comes in two pieces and is perfect for a thin person like me. If you’re one of the shy types and don’t want to show off your body until you reach the beach, you can pair it up with a beach shrug, or wear shorts and a tee that can be easily taken off at the beach.”
Since polka dots are back in trend now, it has also emerged in the bathing suit business, with designers loving the look. Revika Podar, a young designer says, “Polka dots never disappoint us, even when it comes to swimsuits. It gives you a vintage look, making your Insta pictures look very classy and elegant and it covers all the parts of your body, including your booty. There are these new ones with frills on them as well that cover the area which you don’t want to reveal, making it perfect for an Indian summer vacay. You can pair it with white cat eye sunglasses, and a non-smudging red lipstick.”
But one style that has been rocking the fashion businesses is the one-shoulder, one-strap bikini which many celebs like Gigi Hadid and the Kardashians have been spotted wearing during vacays. Talking about the same Shraddha Verma, a fashion design student at NIFT says, “From Zendaya to Selena, we have all seen them wear this one-shoulder swimsuit that comes in a variety of shades but is most common and famous for black and white. The reason why people stick to these colours is that the design itself doesn’t need much to add to it as it looks best simple and chic. Wet your hair and gel it back and flaunt your one-strap bikini on your perfect vacation this summer.”
There are numerous designs that have kicked in for the summer, but designer Jhalak Bhatia says, “Metallic bikinis are something that everyone is talking about and wearing all around the globe when it comes to fashion. Started by the Kardashians, when Khloe started wearing that for her beach holiday in Hawaii, after that almost every other blogger designer was crazy for that design and the style went viral. You could see almost every store from big designers to the Gen-X stores, they all have them.”
