Live the red carpet fantasy!

The most undeniably striking trend of the seasonseems to be the raging appreciation for all things red as the colour is a classic.

While the city may not have any “fashionable fall” moments to its credit, the most striking colour of the season, as we all step into winter is decidedly red. This gorgeous colour is the classic pick-me-up statement for dreary days and celebrities like Katrina Kaif, Kangana Ranaut and Alia Bhatt have been striking daring poses in hot numbers. This colour perfectly compliments the upcoming season and we ask fashionistas from the city, about the trend and the shades of radiance, joy and strength it promises.

Going overboard is not a choice and it’s important to strike a balance with your choice of red as it is one hell of a statement. Designer Babita Jaishankar says, “You can’t do red from top to bottom. The colour needs to be prominent by itself. The best thing about red is that it works well on both a cool and a warm profile which is great for Indians. Given that everyone is looking forward to the festival season now, this one colour could certainly perk up your presence at holiday events. While linen or cotton blend fabrics are more suitable for the day, you could add more drama to your outfit with a shimmery material. A red ankle boot with a cute dress, as red shoes are also in style right now, or a red leather jacket are more unique ways to style.”

There is something deeply nostalgic about the bright vermillion and deep crimson for every Indian woman as it imbues a sense of culture and belonging. With this trend the focus has to stay on the colour as designer Seema Malhotra adds, “Red is such an inherent part of our culture and it invokes the festive mood. This colour draws attention like no other and it’s very significant when making a statement. Accessories have to be very minimal. One piece of jewellery like a pair of earrings or a bracelet that compliments the outfit well is enough. Draped sarees, dhoti pants and bandhini is also such a classic when it comes to ethnic wear.”

The versatility of this colour knows no bounds as city-based fashion blogger, Nischita Babu opines, “Red is such a catchy colour that immediately makes you stand out. You can play around a lot with this colour under the fashion umbrella. The trend is not restricted to just a dress or a pair of pants. You could be wearing a bright red lip or sleek stilettos. I personally love a cosy sweater with blue jeans to match my pair of red heels!”
