Pants-free style
After almost nine months of pandemic house arrest, do we care about pants anymore? Not if you look at the latest streetwear trends spotted on socialites and actors. While elaborate outfits and complicated couture is still out of question considering the quarantine life in 2020, glamorous ladies like Malaika Arora, Shibani Dandekar, and Giorgia Andriani are seen flaunting their hot bods in oversized shirts and boots.
Embrace the ultra chic
Across the world, the simplified trend of pairing an oversized shirt with knee-high boots or ankle-length booties is quite popular among hip fashion bloggers, who often pair it with pop-accessories and eye-catchy makeup. Interestingly, in the post-Covid world, fashion accessories are being replaced by masks and cross-body sling bags to store the sanitisers and gloves. Mumbai-based designer Disha Rawtani of label Diseno, mentions, “With street style getting more popular among millennials, girls like to wear this look all year round, starting from hot summer to winters. In cold weather, all you need is to add heavy tights or leggings underneath your shorts. The best boots to wear with knee-length shirts are ankle-boots — they look both great on short-legged and long-legged women. If you are going to attend a night party, then try on denim separates, tuck in a shirt into denim shorts, and complete the look with stylish heeled ankle boots. The saviour rule is — the shorter your oversized shirt is, the lower your boots heels should be. If you want to look ultra-chic and elegant, then you should pair ankle-boots with soft material shorts made of tweed, sequins, lace, or velvet.”
Easy breezy
Long shirts and boots are a perfect combination, according to Mansi Sharma Kachhara, designer at House of Prisca. It’s feminine and edgy and if paired with the right accessories it can give you the ultimate modern minimal look. “Colours depend a lot on the kind of look you’re going for. If it is a country look, go for tasseled or tie-up brown ankle boots. Ankle boots paired with a bright colour shirt or a printed dress, cinched at the waist by a belt and a few layers of accessories should always do the trick. For a boho look, you could go for either knee-high boots or high combat boots look with accessories paired with a white/black dress finished off with a denim vest or a jacket,” highlights Kachhara.
Pair it right
When you are wearing a shirt whether it’s a loose or fitted one, make sure it fits to your height and body type. A regular or baggy kind of fit doesn’t go well with a long shirt or tee, recommends designer Bharat Ahuja of Desire Design Studio. He shares some fashion tips for those who want to emulate the trend, “Make sure your long tees or shirts are fitted but not body-hugging fitted. If you are pairing it with a lower make sure it’s skinny or tapering fit and match them with ankle-length boots for a casual winter look. Choose a weather-appropriate colour palette — solid colours in winters like crisp white cotton or bright red and yellow to go well with cozy sunny afternoons, and they can be paired with regular skinny black, white and blue denim. One can also layer the shirts and style them with printed scarves, big eyewear, hats, and belts to look absolutely glam.”
