Picking up the right lipstick will change everything for a woman.

It all depends on your skin type or the event that is taking place in your life, your hair colour and most importantly your personality. Most of the time when a customer goes to a make up store, the sales rep is busy thinking about her sales and not necessary what suits a customer.

Here is a quick guide on how to be your own lip expert. Indian skin as such has a yellow and olive undertone. Luckily, almost all colours except cool undertones such as blue, suites it.

The best way to approach this would be to analyse your skin colour.

1) Light toned skin: (commonly known as fair) would be best suited for pinks. Pick a pink champagne or sheer pink for the day, apple cider for a serious meeting at the office and if you want to go sexy at night, a red cherry or mulled wine. If you prefer softer looks, pick a peach tone.

2) Mid light tone (medium ‘wheatish’): For the day, a soft pink rose during the day, a cappuccino colour for your work and peach red for a night out.

3) Tan: A littler warmer toned than wheat or what I would like to call roasted wheat. It is best to use a lovely praline for the day, bronze chocolate for work and a berry red to dance the night away.

4) Deep or dark skin toned: Reach out for purples during the day, a beautiful orange pumpkin spice so everyone will take you seriously at work and a berry raisin for that fun date.
