Accessories are a key to complete any outfit, but with the dazzle of sequins on your saree, less may be more.

All that glitters, doesn’t necessarily have to be gold. They can be sequins too. And shimmery, sequin-encrusted sarees are back in the spotlight now. Our Bollywood actresses have been going gaga over this bling trend for quite some time now and sequin sarees seem ready to shine during this festive season. Here’s how to wear the look best...

Perfect for the festive and wedding season, sequin sarees are back with a bang. “Sequins placed in patterns all over the saree, with contrast colours and gold is making a comeback this season,” designer Prachita Devi says, adding that one should make sure to pick up sequin fabrics or clothes that are well made. When asked what was the best way to style this trend, designer Sparsha RK advises, “Since belted blouses are on point right now, I would style one of those with a half saree worn over a flared lehenga. You can play with drape and add a nice belt to go with the ensemble.” With sequin sarees, you can experiment with colours too. Designer Reshma Kunhi says, “Sequin sarees in pastel, neutral and metallic colours are trending. You can pick up a dual-tone saree as well.” For a jaw-dropping, traffic-stopping look, she recommends a sequin saree in red and black, which will always remain a favourite for cocktail parties and evening events. “For an Indo-Western and more modern look, one can use feathers or ruffles at the edge of pallu,” she suggests.

Accessories are a key to complete any outfit, but with the dazzle of sequins on your saree, less may be more. Designer Laxmi Krishna agrees, “Sequin sarees are sparkling and over the top by themselves. So, we should keep accessories as minimal as possible. A simple Swarovski neckpiece and studs is all you need.” Laxmi offers another tip for accessorising shimmery sequins, “Choose just one colour for your saree and no more than two complementary shades for your accessories.”
