Slip into summer friendly trousers
When it comes to summers, we always think about pairing all our outfits with shorts because they are comfy and cool. But, sometimes they make us a little uncomfortable and cannot be worn anywhere and everywhere and even fashion retailers have increased the availability of lightweight summer friendly pants. These cotton long pants that are replacing the basic shorts for the summers as designers deviate more and more from the idea of black high-waisted jeans, which outlines the lines of legs, hips and waist as much as possible, and opts for infinitely large pants, vintage flared jeans and short pants. They can be seen in fashion magazines and styled in various ways by bloggers. We ask young designers and bloggers about the new trend.
Revika Podar, a fashion designer says, “Let your casual style blossom with colour-splashed floral embroidery and festive fraying with fringes at the hems. Embellished appliqués add glam appeal to these stylish long cum airy pants. Saving us from “TAN Alert Season. Long pants are replacing the basic shorts this summer, and I absolutely love the trend.”
“My wardrobe is slowly shifting towards super comfy long pants as they’re extremely hassle-free and trendy for summers. A minimalistic top with solid primary colour pants with fun accessories, hats and sling bags works fantastically. Bright wide-leg pants with an ombre-dyed top and oversized sunglasses can make for a vibrant 70’s-inspired look. Pleated long pants with a boat neck top and classic tote bag are great for a casual work day,” says Manisha Umashankar, a fashion blogger.
The flared pants from hip area can be made of any costume fabric, even leather and vinyl, which do not lose their actuality.
As these bloggers always come up with something new, Sonia Thiyam tells us that, “Pairing up these pants with the right kind of a top is absolutely necessary to pull it off. I suggest wearing a white collared shirt for an office look, a crop top for a fun-day out and turtle necked shirts if you’re in a slightly cooler city. You could wear it tucked in or even wear your short kurtas with them, giving it a more Indian look.”
A look is always incomplete without accessorising it the right way; pictures look empty without the right accessory.
We get a design student from NIFT to give us more inputs on how to accessorise the look, Ayushi Tyagi, who shares with us insights on pairing these pants with the right accessories. She says, “Nowadays people prefer wearing long bottoms or cool breezy pants as they’re comfortable and you can even wear them at your workplace too (shorts and skirts are not allowed, most of the time) and also these pants feel like you’re wearing pyjamas. I’m in love with the new cottony, flares leg pants that are very much in trend and you can pair them up with stylish sleeveless white t-shirt or any simple t-shirt, slipons, relaxed fit black t-shirt, striped T-shirts tucked in makes you look sophisticated and nautical, cropped top, blush t-shirt, you can even wear something with lace tucked in high waisted pastel flare. You can pair it up with a white T-shirt with printed pants, cropped spaghetti strap black top with floral flare pants. V neck T-shirt would also work. You can add white gemstone necklace and oversized glasses to it.”
