A fashionable belt up!

Corsets might have a dicey place in history, but they are making a comeback.

Kim Kardashian’s slim waist after 2 babies, Kylie Jenner’s disappearing waist, they’ve all come to set unrealistic hour glass figures as standards on social media. As we know fashion finds a way to repeat itself, be it bootcut denims or mom jeans. One such trend picking up is the corset. Of course, it is a newer, cooler version this time – the corset belt.

Initially worn as a garment to hold the torso in place and achieve an unrealistic waist shape in the 16th century, the corset is a very controversial garment in the history of fashion. Thanks to the Kar-jenners, the corset is back. Everyone is sporting the trend of the baggy t-shirt and corset belts right from Rihanna to India’s famous fashion bloggers.

Wear it on an oversized shirt or a baggy tshirt stolen from your boyfriend on a sunny day out or for brunch on the weekend, the corset belt is a fun way to play out your boring dresses. Play with fun colours and textures. It not only gives an illusion of a slimmer waist but also adds good posture. Worn with stilettos, sneakers, oxford heels or even thigh high boots, the corset belt can be your pick to spice up any outfit.

But being an Indian woman, there’s no fun if it can’t be worn with the whole nine yards. If you’re looking to be the centre of attention or the eye magnet at the party, you will have to dare to be a little different, and you will be glad you did. Pick out your mom’s plain sarees in any fabric you like, or another alternative if you’re not into sarees is a fun sarong fabric paired with cut-out crop tops or a jersey shirt along with your favourite white sneakers and to add the final touch, bring in the corset belt. You can play around with the drapes and make it look very contemporary with interesting accessories as well.

Lastly, don’t forget to carry your confidence and fierceness in abundance because it is the essence of the whole look.
