The last day of the city’s biggest fashion week saw a mix of various styles, unique designs and innovative shows. Inspiration was drawn from varied sources, right from the colours of Ladakh to the strength of a modern-day queen.

In what was one of the highlights of the day, Kaveri Lalchand graced the ramp herself, performed a beautiful poem called What Do Girls Want, and revealed that the answer for that quip is a red dress. Through her performance, the designer explained that even when it comes to a simple red dress, every girl wants something different, which is what her collection was all about. Made with natural fabrics, and boasting floral and botanical motifs, this collection was a break from bright and bold colours. Veteran actor Shabana Azmi was the showstopper and walked the ramp in a black dress with pink and grey details.

Next in line was menswear label ‘Tisa’ by Timir Savla and Samira Lavekar. Inspired by their stay in Ladakh, the duo showcased a collection named ‘Shey’. With neutral earthy tones and shapely silhouettes, this collection is a perfect balance between formal and occasion-wear. Talking about the collection, Sameera says: “The collection is inspired by the peace and structure of Ladakh, which is so mesmerizing. We’ve incorporated all of these elements in our garments in terms of style and techniques, and there’s a lot of texturing. The motifs are very minimal and simple, inspired by the region. The colour palette is very subdued — it goes from ivory, grey, and navy blue to black,” she explains. The designers stayed true to the inspiration and used natural fabrics like cotton, silk and wool.

Debutante model and showstopper Vijay Verma felt a little out of place. “It’s the first time I’m wearing a sherwani in life. It was really nice to wear it, it is so comfortable and it fits me so well. I’ve been on stage and in film sets as an actor, but this is a different ball game altogether. I had to do nothing but walk, it was a good experience,” he shares.

Meanwhile, designers Sonam and Paras Modi wanted to showcase the modern-day queen. Limiting their colour palette to black, midnight blue and metallic shades, their collection ‘Rani SVA’ was elegant and powerful at the same time. “We’ve taken inspiration from all the queens and royal heritage of our country, and interpret it for the queen of today,” says Sonam. Showstopper Diva Dhawan walked down the ramp in a black bedazzled high-waisted skirt, a matching blouse, and a grey detail over the midriff.

While ‘SVA’ was dark and intense, Rajdeep Ranawat’s collection Sin was a burst of colours and beautiful motifs.  Talking about the collection he says, “This is basically an interpretation of modern nomads, just the way we love to travel so much. We’ve tried to incorporate the inlay works of Taj Mahal in the motifs and the embroidery of Kutch.”
