Multi-hued splendour
For the longest, it was muted tones that ruled the rooster (and was pegged as a go-to) for its fuss-free versatility and understated elegance. And now, sporting multi colours is all the rage. However, there is also no taking away from the fact that sporting an ‘out there’ look and striking a balance is a challenge that could go awry.
The power of one unifying colour cannot be undermined, believes Allen Claudius, fashion consultant, creative director, and blogger. “Initially people restricted wearing outfits with just one element of multi-colour. Even clashing prints were considered a no-no. Today, there really isn’t a concept of a fashion faux pas for a smart dresser!” Opining how having one unifying colour is a fail-safe way to get it right, Allen enthuses, “For example, if your topwear comprises of colours like neon green, pink and mauve, there could be a shade of maroon as an underlay to the outfit. That works. Settle for earthy tones with a tiny red detailing to create a striking yet paced out contrast.”
“Have at least two colours and ensure you do not exceed four colours. Block solid colours. Generally avoid block coloured prints and multiple stripes. Pick colours in similar shades,” suggests blogger Megha Varshini, who runs Stilettos Diary, who adds, “Body shape plays important role. Usually I suggest pear shaped body type to avoid colour blocking in mid section. Avoid excessive accessories when colour blocking. If you want to go with low risk way of trying the trend then wear a colour block shoes, slip on bracelets. One of the quickest ways to sport the look is by picking a multi-coloured bag on a plain outfit.”
Fashion curator Namita Gautham signs off by stating, “While wearing an outfit that has many colours, I personally feel like the most important thing is to be able to carry everything off with a lot of confidence. So strut like you mean it is number one. It's also best to not over do the makeup, and pick one colour of pop, preferably one that compliments the outfit. So go for a pink lipstick with an outfit in those tones instead of a blue lipstick. The last thing I say is the most important, is to have fun. Be who you are, and have a great time being yourself, in all your colour and glory.
