Playing on the ‘dare to experiment’ approach with this trend, brands are using interesting ideas to reinvent the skirts beyond basics and classics. Designer Rachit Maskara thinks asymmetrical skirts are here to stay and can play an important role in highlighting your confidence. “Like a statement piece with nice simple wash but a fun play with the silhouette to make you step out of the box, excite your mundane routine with asymmetrical bottom wear preferably a skirt,” says Maskara, as he adds, “Pair it with a basic solid knit top or a white/back oversized shirt or pick a non-traditional silhouette with neon colours or stripes or a pattern mix top/shirt, for a casual look. Aim for a sexy look with a highly distressed asymmetrical denim skirt with side zip details. Throw in an oversized jacket for an added effect. Anti-fit and heavily distressed or re-done pair of jeans or skirt will be very common this season as customers are much aware of the waste generated by the apparel industries so recycling the old things to curate new designs is the need of the hour. Just make sure not to overdo it to avoid looking like you just transported from the 70s.”

Whether you choose the midis, denim skirts, dhoti skirts or the chic slip skirts with fine pleats, asymmetrical designs in this silhouette make it an easy, breezy wardrobe staple that you can rock anywhere and everywhere. Designer Adarsh Makharia highlights the different kinds of skirts with an asymmetrical style that are trending this season. He says, “The various styles that are in right now are the midi length, mini and well as maxi asymmetrical skirts. The 90’s fashion of asymmetrical skirts is big right now, in bright colours and prints like floral, geometrical and plaid. The high low midi skirts are great, even the mini-skirts that come with a bit of ruffle and an asymmetrical hem on one side. Avoid wearing something too anti-fit on the top with these skirts, stick to a little bit of a heel in the footwear. You can pair them with camp tops, sheer sleeve skirts. You can try the ones that are in tie and dye print, or have a slit in the side to show some skin.”

Whether you go with a modest midi version, an asymmetrical hemline or funky tutu style, these skirts go with all body types and work for all kinds of seasons. Designer Anjali Bhaskar vouches for skirts with versatile and universal appeal, and says, “These skirts with for every body type; for instance, a nice pleated skirt can be paired with a crisp shirt for the office or worn with a nice crop top for a nice evening out. It can easily transition from day to night scene. To uplift your wardrobe, invest in some nice ruffled midis or tiered hem skirts or go for nice flowy midis. For a fun easy approach pair it with a smart pair of trainers or for a daintier look a nice pair of stilettos would work great too.”
