Yum-yum rum time
A popular distilled alcoholic drink made from sugarcane byproducts and usually aged in oak barrels, rum is the key ingredient to many of the classic tiki bar cocktails. There are different types of rum depending on the style of which its alcohol content can range from 20 per cent to 75.5 per cent alcohol. Rums are produced in various grades. What is used commonly in cocktails is light rum, whereas golden and dark rums are consumed on the rocks or for cooking. There are premium rums also which are consumed either straight or iced.
Rum is a major flavouring agent used in baking cakes, cookies and is also used as marinades in Caribbean dishes. Sometimes mixed with icecreams and often with raisins, rum is also a favourite in rum punches and cocktails like piña colada, mojito, rum toddy, hot buttered rum, Dark 'N' Stormy, Painkiller, a New Orleans cocktail named Hurricane and Jagertee, a mixture of rum and black tea popular in Central Europe.
