While all eyes are on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ahead of their royal wedding, preparations are also in full swing. As the wedding dress and even the hotel room they will stay at are under the spotlight, how can the wedding cake be left out?

Baker Claire Ptak has been working on crafting the cake which includes an array of different ingredients. It will have 200 Amalfi lemons, 500 eggs and 10 bottles of elderflower cordial made from the Queen’s estate.

The ethereal layered lemon and elderflower cake will have three parts of different sizes. The final design will only be unveiled on the day of the wedding.

Claire has been working tirelessly with a team of six bakers for five days in the kitchens of Buckingham Palace. Slices of the cake will be served to 600 guests at the lunchtime reception.

The lemon sponge which has been specially developed for the couple will be drizzled with elderflower cordial. Three types of Meghan’s favourite flowers will be used to decorate the cake.
