Boring oats? Here's how you can get yourself to eat them
Day 1: Oats. Day 2: Coke float. If you’re looking for something healthy and filling, oats make for an interesting eat. Popular among circles striving for weight loss, they come with some amazing benefits. From fibres to protein and antioxidants, they’re an interesting part of the grain family. But they might look and taste bland to a few. Here’s how you can eat oats happily:
Eat them straight out of the pot
This one is a genuine hack. Oat commercials always show piping hot oats that look delicious, and that’s exactly how you’d like them too. So if you’re serving yourself oats in a bowl and topping it up with nuts, berries and a drizzle of honey, it’s time to reconsider. Pour it all in an insulated mug or go for the pot directly. That way, it stays warm for longer!
Water? NO!
Let’s be honest. Oatmeal already tends to be boring, so adding water will just make it harder for you to eat. Instead, go for experimental flavours. Like lavender tea, or matcha tea, with some banana slices. Go ahead and add the vegetable broth if you’re making one with vegetables.
Experiment all you can
Sweet or savoury, or something in between, everyone has their own taste preferences. For spice, try a dash of allspice, cinnamon and nutmeg. If you want something sweet, get creative with nut butters. The standard sandwich duo of peanut butter and bananas works well here too.
Chocolate is always a good idea
Make your oats as you do, with milk. But add chocolate this time: grated dark chocolate if you’re health conscious. Stir it all up and you’ll find the taste to be better than just milk. Or, if you feel like baking, go ahead and bake some good old chocolate chip oatmeal cookies!
