Baby girl born with intestines on the outside wrapped in cling film to protect her

The rare condition affecting 1 in 3000 children prevented the child's abdominal wall from developing before birth.

Children born with physical deformities have to struggle for survival through every day of their life and at times they may leave children in heartbreaking conditions. Living with organs outside the body can be an ordeal for any person, and an infant suffering such an ordeal is unimaginable.

Ava-Rose Nightingale from Wales was born with a condition called gastrochisis which means her intestines grow outside her body. The disorder prevented her abdominal wall from forming properly before birth and led to her shocking physical state.

The baby’s mother shared a heartbreaking picture clicked minutes after her birth which showed the organs spilling out. The child was wrapped in cling film in order to protect her from infections and keep her warm.

Eva is finally home after staying in hospital for seven weeks when a three hour operation was carried out on her. She was given oxygen and her hair was shaved so that she could be fed intravenously through the head.
