Woman breaks her rib from a bad cough
A woman coughed so hard she broke her rib, according to a report by the Daily Mail.
An unnamed 66-year-old woman had suffered a bad dry cough for two weeks. She was experiencing terrible pain in her ride side and even had a large bruise between her rib cage and hip, the report revealed.
The results from a CT scan showed this occurred because she had a fracture of her ninth rib, which broke into two parts. This caused a hernia in her chest, a New England Journal of Medicine report stated.
Test conducted on her revealed she had whooping cough. Antibiotics and surgery helped the woman make a recovery.
Whooping cough is a deadly contagious bacterial infection of the lungs and airways. Runny nose, watery eyes, sore throat and slightly high temperature are some of its symptoms.
It can be extremely dangerous for infants with whooping cough. It is reportedly fatal for one in 500 babies who develop the health issue.
