Halloween is that time of the year when several people come up with the most unique costumes. But some of them may go too far in their quest for pulling off a look that sets them apart.

11-year-old Emilie Turcotte thought coloured lenses would be the best accessory for her demon look on Halloween. But the next morning she woke up screaming and crying because her eyes were burning like fire.

She was left blinded for four days as the contact lenses had damaged the cornea and infected skin around the eyes. Although her vision returned, Emilie could’ve been blinded permanently had her family not visited the hospital immediately.

The girl wore the lenses at school for a few hours and then at night while she was out trick-or-treating. Her eyes were blood red the next morning and the lenses had acted as suction cups tearing cells away from the cornea.
