Infant fights for life as rare disorder causes his head to weigh 2.5 kg
Life can be horrible for children afflicted by rare conditions at a young age as they have to put up with life altering consequences. While several children are able to return to normal life thanks to groundbreaking medical procedures, many still have to struggle for years or even their entire life.
A baby from Jharkhand is struggling against a rare disorder at the tender age of just three months as it threatens to end his life. The condition called hydrocephalus has caused Ankit Minj’s head to triple in size and has also led to him being branded an alien by locals.
The child’s situation is described as an extreme case as his head weighs 2.5 kg and is 27 inches in circumference. This is caused by excess fluid even as doctors have been able to drain some of it through a shunt hence preventing damage to the brain.
Meanwhile his helpless parents have lost hope already as they feel their child will die despite the efforts. The doctors on the other hand say that although the shunt can stop further damage, it isn’t likely that Ankit’s head will shrink back to normal size.
