In a shocking incident, a nine-year-old girl gave birth after being raped by her father in Peru.
Reports say that the child had been abused since the age of eight by her 43-year-old father and has given birth at Hipolito Unanue Hospital in Tacna, in the country's south.
Reports in Peru say she had been unable to have an abortion because the pregnancy was only discovered at five months when her mother noticed her swollen stomach.
The child gave birth to a baby girl, born weighing 7lbs 3oz and is healthy, according to officials at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the girl's father has been dubbed 'The Monster' in Peru.
Her mother lost custody of the child after she had reportedly refused to make an official complaint about her husband’s barbaric abuse.
Since then the youngster has been living with missionaries at a shelter in the city.
Medical staff say the victim will now be given intensive therapy to help her come to terms with the ordeal and in the hope she will not reject her daughter.
The father is being detained in La Capilla de Juliaca jail as investigation scontinue.
