Women may grow insecure about appearance after looking at pictures on social media
Social media allows an individual to interact with a large number of people in any part of the world. It allows users to share ideas, opinions and images from their day to day life with friends as well as new people they come across.
While it is a way of staying updated about lives of friends and loved ones through their posts and pictures, it may also have adverse effects. Researchers have warned that women may feel insecure about their looks after just an hour of looking at pictures uploaded by others.
They start to get worried about how other people see them and experience pressure regarding body image as well. They also compare themselves with friends who may be using filters to enhance their looks on social media.
Researchers said that while there was a slim ideal for women before the internet took over, social media seems to have made it even more powerful. Previous studies have also pointed out how people get fixated by comparisons with their friends based on social media posts.
