Video: Waterspout looms over Italian city before ravaging it

Local reports stated that it caused damage to homes, cars and injured at least one person.

A waterspout near Sanremo, in the north west of Italy caused extensive damage to the city was captured on video by the locals.

The footage shows the waterspout just beginning to form over the sea before it ravaged the city.

Waterspouts are columns of cloud formed over bodies of water, which begin to rotate. Their average lifespan in 5 to 10 minutes, but can last up to an hour.

Northern Italy has been hit by snow and storms in the last few days causing a lot of weather alerts.
