Born Passionate
Where most will nod their heads and say impossible simply, a 10 year old kid from Assam has proven that nothing is impossible if there is zeal within oneself. The 5th standard student, Suhan Mallick has started taking care of our mother earth himself along with he has travelled all across in India to talk to influential people who can help him succeed in his dream. But this entire episode is not leaving studies. 3 years back when started learning about environment, he used to cry out loud whenever he saw someone tried to cut down a tree. But, soon he understood that only stopping people around him will not do.
He dreams of India becoming greener and pollution free. Along with this aim, he also wishes to promote eco-tourism and wants people take the ‘Save Rhinos’ project more seriously. Though it is not possible for him to run the campaign throughout the year, he tries to reach as many people during his summer vacation and winter vacation. Though, one might come to a conclusion thinking that he seeks fame out of the cause. All the kid has to say is, “People may not take me on a serious note. But when John Abraham or Akshay Kumar or the prime minister himself speaks about the cause, people are bound to listen to them. That is the reason I want to spread awareness among them so that it is passed on to others through them. ”
In the recently organised Rongali carnival in Guwahati, the boy took an initiative and got 500 plants from the state government and distributed them for free. People coming to the fest had plans for buying stuffs of their choice. But at the end, they couldn’t neglect and crowded in front of Suhan’s stall to collect plants. There were even people who collected quite a few for themselves and their family and friends as well.
Sajida Mallick, mother of Suhan says, “We were amazed to see Suhan react aggressively as he saw getting a tree chopped down. Soon he started saying that he wanted others to feel for these plants as well.”Whenever this story will be told, a lot will feel that it is only possible as he belongs from affluent family. But the surprise is still waiting. Suhan’s father is an Uber driver. As he has confessed, he could not think of travelling to all these places and meeting all these personas if not for his son.
Whenever he felt that he won’t be able to sponsor his son’s trip, he did not stop supporting him. Instead, he takes loan from people whom he knows.
In the meantime, the campaigner has met political heads, celebrities and other social influencers of our nation. He says his greater aim is to promote Assam as well as India as an eco-tourism hub. He has invited people to visit Assam get a taste of what is actual eco-tourism. A student of mere 10 years can understand the grave danger that is hanging upon our heads but those who feel the issue and still ignore it are the ones who better act now before it gets too late.
