A DIY hack someone came up with can quickly turn into a trend in the age of social media and viral sensations. While many may be useful or just hyped up, some trends tend to be bizarre to the extent of being disturbing.

People are following the trick on internet as they try to remove skin blemishes using rubber-bands. While a growing number of YouTube tutorials endorse this, experts have slammed it as a method that can cause permanent disfigurement, infections and may even be fatal.

The hack involves wrapping rubber bands tightly around scar tissues called keloids to stop blood supply. This causes them to turn black and eventually fall off.

But experts say this is a painful practice which can easily lead to infections or cause necrosis which may be reason for disfigurement. Such a reaction may also cause death due to gangrene if a large part of the tissue doesn’t get blood supply.
