The V-shaped gap between the bosom is something everyone obsesses over and want to have! It is undeniable that there are certain dimensions of the breast which result in a pleasing contour and cleavage. Achieving a perfect cleavage may allude to that condition when the breasts are placed closer together in the middle. Most women choose to undergo a breast augmentation to achieve their favourite curve. While the current trend in breast augmentation favours a subtle, natural look, many women still want to increase their cleavage while maintaining a natural appearance. So the million dollar question is, how can your cosmetic surgeon achieve this balance of a fuller cleavage without looking fake?

Many celebs in India and around the world like Bipasha Basu, Kangana Ranaut, Sushmita Sen, Mylie Cyrus and Selena Gomez have gone from being an ‘A’ to being a ‘C’ with the help of breast augmentation.

Achieving a perfect cleavage surgically is purely subjective and therefore a detailed discussion with your surgeon about the outcome you are looking for is a must. It largely depends on one factor, the existing anatomy of the patient.  The distance between the inner edges of the breasts and the inter-nipple distance is what determines your cleavage following a breast augmentation. Implants must be centered directly under the nipples. If you have breasts that are naturally spaced far apart, then you'll continue to have breasts that are spaced far apart after your breast augmentation. If you have breasts that are naturally close together and prominent cleavage, then you'll continue to have prominent cleavage after your surgery.

The two factors which can customise to create the desired cleavage are:
Placement of the implant. If you would like your breasts to appear closer together at the midline, your cosmetic surgeon can strategically place your implants, above or below the muscle to achieve this look.

Size and implant profile.Higher profiles will  generally provide more upper pole fullness, which translates to more cleavage. However, you can still achieve a subtle boost of cleavage with moderate profiles.

The breast augmentation procedure is safe and performed under general anesthesia. Silicone implants are the most preferred device to achieve augmentation. The procedure takes about one to two hours and is done as daycare surgery (no admission required).

The procedure costs can vary between Rs 1,10,000 - 1,50,000. The usual downtime following a breast augmentation is 48-72 hours following which a person can return back to work. A snug sports bra is best worn for a month following the procedure.

Finally, it is really important for anyone contemplating the procedure to have realistic expectations. Choosing the right board certified plastic surgeon is equally important as the results will highly vary on the experience and artistic skills of the surgeon. Once your augmentation is complete, the best way to add additional cleavage is through a well-designed bra.
