The perfect setting for romance
Valentine’s Day usually involves candle light dinner with fine wine and sinfully delicious chocolate for your sweetheart. While these are all great ways to celebrate, surprising your lover by turning your home into a romantic getaway can boost the romance quotient. Here are a few ways to make your house as romantic — and unique — as your love.
Living room
“At the centre of your home should be a beautiful private space where you and your partner can relax and connect,” suggests Prasoon Shrivastava, founder and CEO, HelpMeBuild, adding, “Invest in a big comfy couch where you can snuggle up together and watch your favourite films. You can make a statement without much investment by changing your cushion covers with bold and busy prints that are very charming. A bunch of fresh flowers as a centrepiece also makes the atmosphere more lively and aromatic.”
Bedroom
Bedroom is one place that you should be paying special attention to while decorating for this great day of love. Rajat Singhi, founder and creative director, Address Home says, “The best idea is to change the linen and pick cosy and comfortable bedding in soft pastels. Also, get rid of the harsh white lighting and replace it with warm yellow lighting or different types of bedroom lighting easily available in the market to set the mood right for the day.”
Adding to the point Aditya Gupta, founder, The Furniture Republic and The Rug Republic says, “It is important to make this room comfortable and fitting your choice. With the bed being undoubtedly the centrepiece, the couple should ensure that their personalities match while choosing it. The bed could be a combination of modern and traditional styles, if the couple differs in terms of their furniture style preference.”
Aditya points out that serious consideration should be given to storage to avoid clutter and make the bedroom a tidy and safe place.
Dining Room
If you are planning an at-home wine and dine, then, this is where you can make an everlasting impression, explains Samira Chopra, interior designer. She adds, “Pay attention to detail and carefully curate everything that goes on the table apart from the food. Printed table spread or place mats can go a long way in adding some vibrancy to the atmosphere. Use fresh blossoms to harmonise the theme.”
Bathroom
Let scented candles and beautiful flower petals take over your bathroom. Anupama Bihani, owner and interior designer, Mirabel Interior Decor Studio says, “You don’t need a claw-foot bath or a jacuzzi to create an indulgent spa-at-home experience. Float rose petals on the surface and invite your partner to relax and unwind at day’s end. Flickering candles, offset by mirrors, will create alluring shadows and soft pools of light just where you want them. Enhance the mood with small luxuries like special soaps, fragrant oils and massage creams and wrap up in lush towels and bathrobes.”
Outdoor
Take the party out with alfresco dining and transform a terrace or verandah with sparkling fairy lights, shares Prasoon. “Use string lights and lanterns to provide ambient lighting and oodles of charm. You can even use cushions and throws on the seating to add more warmth to your date spot.”
The key to creating an amazing outdoor space is by adding an element of natural beauty that reinforces the wonder of spending time in nature, expplains Harpreet Ahluwalia, founder and principle designer, Earthly Creations. “In the modern outdoor space, one could use contemporary succulent planters decked out in a range of interesting configurations. One can place the planters along the windows so residents can enjoy them from the indoors.”
