PM Modi meme lands AIB in trouble, again
Mumbai: The Mumbai Police Cyber Cell on Friday filed an FIR against All India Bakchod (AIB) co-founder Tanmay Bhat for making fun of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
It began with AIB’s official Twitter account posting a meme on Modi, using Snapchat's dog filter.
The tweet had a dog-filtered photo of the Prime Minister with the caption #Wanderlust, adding "Dog filter is lyf."(sic)
However, the plethora of fans of Modi took offence, and in return, the AIB has to face their wrath.
One of the Twitter users, Reetesh Maheshwari, tagged the Mumbai Police and said that strict action should be taken against the organisation for such a 'disrespectful' joke against the Prime Minister.
The Mumbai Police immediately responded, saying they would forward the matter to the cyber police station.
"Thank you for bringing this to our notice. We are forwarding this to the cyber police station," the Mumbai Police tweeted.
This is not the first time that Tanmay has found himself embroiled in a controversy.
Last year in May, Bhatt received nationwide flak for posting an irreverent video of a mock conversation between legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar and legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.
He posted a video on his Facebook account captioned 'Sachin vs Lata Civil War', along with this disclaimer: I make such nonsense on my Snapchat. (I make such nonsense on my Snapchat - follow me there - ID: Thetanmay) (Also I obviously love Lata and Sachin, just having some fun).
Bhatt's jokes usually get appreciated, but he faced the wrath of his fans and several Bollywood celebrities this time.
The AIB hogged immense limelight in 2015, when they came up with first-of-its-kind comedy event, named as 'AIB roast', using expletive-laden language at a public event, drawing ire of many political parties including the Shiv Sena and others.
