LONG LIVE REVOLUTION!
A tribute to the inspiring souls whose lives were not less than any revolution and who with their lives ignited the cause of freedom.

1 She left her home and went underground and set up India’s first radio station, the Secret Congress Radio. The heroic venture during the Quit India movement left the British hapless. It gave an account of the activities and played the recorded voices of Gandhi and other leaders when there was strict censorship. Identify. 2This visionary hailed as the ‘Johnny Appleseed of the Himalayas’ was born in a wealthy Quaker family in America and fought for Indian Freedom. He travelled to India to serve leprosy patients in Shimla and devoted himself to the Indian cause. He joined the Congress and was the sole American to sign the Congress manifesto in 1921. Identify.

3 She is one of the greatest warriors of Assam. In 1942, a resolution was taken to hoist the national flag at the court and police station. She walked with the national flag as the leader and led the procession until she was shot. She kept on holding the flag until the last. Identify. 

4 She was married to a revolutionary and was close to Mahatma Gandhi and Chandrashekhar Azad. She began supporting Azad by secretly carrying messages. She was a part of the infamous Kakori train robbery conspiracy and was given the charge of
delivering firearms. Identify.

5 He is revered as a martyr in Tamil Nadu and is known by the epithet ‘Kodikatha Kumaran’ — who saved the flag since he gave his life defending the Indian Nationalists Flag. He was killed during a protest march against the arrest of Mahatma Gandhi in 1932. He was found dead holding the flag. Identify.

CORRIDORS OF FREEDOM
The air in these corridors of monuments still echo the stories of the hardships of our people. Let’s glance at some of the popular monuments associated with the
freedom struggle.

1 This monument originally had seven straight wings connected to a tower looking like a bicycle wheel with each wing attached like a spoke of the wheel. This design was based on English philosopher Jeremy Bentham’s concept of the Panopticon. Puce coloured bricks were brought from Burma to construct the building. Identify. 

2 This monument was donated to the government of India in 1969. This was the place where Kasturba Gandhi and Mahadev Desai died. Legend goes that a Sultan built this to provide employment to the famine struck villagers of the surrounding region. Identify. 

3 In 1870, Prince of Saxe-Coburg visited Allahabad and this place got its name. It was built when the old cantonments of Georgetown were transformed into a park following which Civil Lines called Canning Town was developed following the Mutiny. It was renamed after which Indian?

4 Gandhiji visited Karnataka around 18 times, including 14 visits to Bangalore, to reinforce the struggle against the British. The Mahatma also stayed for a month at this beautiful heritage structure in a 14-acre patch. It was originally the residence of Sir K. Seshadri Iyer, the longest-serving Dewan of Mysore and architect of modern Bangalore. Identify.

1 The 51st session of the Congress was held here. The president of the
session entered in a chariot drawn by 51 bullocks, accompanied by 51 girls in saffron saris, after a two-hour procession through 51 gates that also had 51 brass bands playing. Identify the place and President.

2 Gandhiji’s historic Dandi March to break the Salt Law started on March 12, 1930. C. Rajagopalachari planned a march from Tiruchi to this place for a similar purpose. The place is known for a popular Shiva temple with “Hamsapthanathaanam”, the dance pose similar to the gait of a swan. Identify. 

3 It was this place in Mumbai where Mahatma Gandhi launched the Quit India Movement. Before its historical significance, this was a place where the locals used to bathe their cattle. There is supposedly an underground tank in the place. It was a Tram terminus where Trams would start and finish. Identify. 

4 This place has a deep association with the freedom movement. The largest sugar factory in Asia, known as the Shree Khedut Sahakari Khand Udyog Mandali Limited, was the first ever sugar factory that was started in the state’s cooperative sector. The place is basically known for a great movement. identify.
