Aamir Khan's TOH promotion plans

Aamir Khan's film Thugs of Hindostan (TOH) will soon be starting its round of promotions.

Aamir Khan’s film Thugs of Hindostan (TOH) will soon be starting its round of promotions. Bankrolled by Yash Raj Films, it is based on Colonel Philip Meadows Taylor’s book Confessions of a Thug, written almost two centuries ago in 1839.

“Aamir and the TOH team will have a meeting soon to plan which character to reveal first and the sequence of the revelations. Apart from Aamir, the film also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif, and Fatima Sana Shaikh. The only issue is that the look of the characters have already been leaked in the media and extensively on the social media. Hence, there will be a different strategy as opposed to what the makers had thought before. And since the film will come in Diwali during the first week of November, it’s major promotional thrust will only start in September. But there are some plans to promote the film earlier too,” says a source.

Interestingly the protagonist of the book, who is an anti-hero of sorts by virtue of being written by an Englishman, is called Ameer Ali. Aamir plays the role of Ameer Ali who is adopted by a thug named Ismail played by Amitabh. Other stories on thugs and a few more fictional characters and episodes have been added to the stories to make it a feature film worthy tale, informs the source.

Interestingly one of Aamir’s earlier films Mangal Pandey had a character from Taylor's other book Seeta, which spoke about a British civil servant's relationship and marriage with a widow.
