Mum-of-one commits suicide on being rebuked for 'tasteless sambar'
A 50-year-old homemaker got so upset over a fight with her paralysed husband over ‘tasteless sambar’ that she hanged herself at her residence in Cholurpalya, in west Bengaluru.
The woman, Nagarathna Srinivas is survived by her husband Srinivas and son Mithun, who runs an electronics shop on SP Road.
According to police the woman’s husband is bedridden after he suffered a stroke many years ago. They would often fight over trivial issues and and Srinivas would get upset if Nagarathna shouted back at him.
The fight seems to have gone too far when upset with her paralysed husband, who criticized her for preparing 'tasteless sambar' she hanged herself at her residence.
According to relatives, Srinivas slipped into depression after he was bedridden when he had a stroke. Their son would leave early in the morning and the couple spent the whole day at home, most of which they spent squabbling. This gradually pushed Nagarathna into depression.
According to police, on Friday night, Srinivas seems to have found fault with the sambar prepared by his wife. Nagarathna lost her cool and retorted by saying that was the best she could do. Srinivas accused her of neglecting him as he was unemployed and stayed at home. Nagarathna tried to placate him by saying that wasn't what she meant. But Srinivas blamed himself and continued to rebuke her.
Disturbed, Nagarathna locked herself in the room and took her own life.
