Trump falsely claims Queen reviewed Guard of Honour for 1st time in yrs for his visit
Donald Trump has falsely claimed the Queen reviewed her Guard of Honour for the first time in 70 years during his visit to the UK.
However, it is well known that the monarch carries out the tradition during visits from any foreign dignitaries.
The US President made the claim as he recounted his trip to Windsor Castle during a speech at the White House.
He said, “We met with the Queen, who is absolutely a terrific person, where she reviewed her Honour Guard for the first time in 70 years, they tell me. We walked in front of the Honour Guard and that was very inspiring to see and be with her.”
However, sharp-eyed social media users were quick to point out Trump's mistake.
Many took the platform of Twitter to point out the information was incorrect.
The Queen has been on the throne for 66 years since her coronation in June 1953.
She has met hundreds of world leaders during that time and has hosted dozens of visits a year from heads of states.
As part of the process, she has also frequently reviewed the Guard of Honour during her reign.
In 2011 she reviewed the Guard of Honour when she met President Obama.
The Queen has met with 10 US presidents during her time on the throne.
Trump's visit to Windsor Castle further caused controversy when he broke royal protocol by walking in front of the Queen as he discussed the Guard of Honour.
