Silver is forever

All that glitters may be expensive, but that isn't the case for silver.

The wedding season is just around the corner, and some of us must have already received dozens of invitations from our friends, family and acquaintances. While the time is neigh to decide outfits, turns out, it is also an opportune moment to decide presents.

And what better than something that will embellish the giftee’s home? However, newlyweds have reason to complain here, as certain ‘modern’ wedding gifts are repetitive. Take Bluetooth speakers and other gadgets, for instance. These are the kind of things that lose utility as soon as the person being gifted has more than one. What next then? Well, gifting it onward.

Given that the gadgets might be taking the fun of wedding gifting, there’s no harm in going for age-old traditions. Gold and silver, for instance, have always found their place in holy matrimony. Metal is forever, which translates to ‘metal is the perfect gift’. However, while gold is definitely expensive, silver is dainty and reasonable at the same time. It also fulfills the purpose and helps you maintain your social standing. So, why not?

Aanchal Mittal, a would-be bride, shares, “I am not very fond of gold jewellery. I tend to avoid wearing it, as I am very scared of losing pieces and ornaments. Instead, silver keeps me confident. There are so many options you can browse for gifts, especially a dinner set or a photo-frame. And, of course, silver is eternal, just like the memories of my wedding.”

Similarly, Ravi Chawla, managing director of Ravissant, guides us with the reasons to why it is appropriate to gift silver to your loved ones this wedding season. He opines, “Silver is traditionally considered an auspicious metal and symbolises riches and wealth. It represents hope, unconditional love, mystic visions, tenderness, kindness and sensitivity.” On the options that one has when it comes to gifting home décor, Ravi lists everything from the ultra-stylish sterling silver and silver-coated gifts to options like vases, frames, jewellery and jewellery boxes, trays, wine glasses, dinner sets, antique accessories and many more. Thoughtful personalised gifts like silver cufflinks, boxes, idols and silver frames are a rage too.

Silver has stood the test of time and so have weddings. So, why not unite both and see how they can support each other through the ups and downs of life?
