Acing the look

VJ turned air hostess turned Celebrity makeup artist Bianca Louzado talks about her art of making Bollywood divas look picture-perfect.

It was after traversing through four career paths that celebrity makeup and hair artist Bianca Louzado finally found her calling. With a double major in chemistry and food technology, she initially pursued a career in modelling before moving on to being launched as a VJ with the likes of Purab Kohli for Channel V. She left the glamorous life to work as an air hostess but Bianca knew that her heart was yet to find her true calling. “I would tell my father and husband that there’s something more that I am made for but I wasn’t able to put a finger on it. I even did fashion designing for a while but again that wasn’t something I was passionate about,” recalls Bianca.

It was her father who suggested her to take a course in makeup and funded it. She still wasn’t sure of this career path, as she resented the vision of running behind people with a vanity box. “As a kid, I would paint dolls and myself with my mother and aunt’s makeup. I did makeup for my friends during college and also when I was a VJ and an air hostess. As a father, he knew I had a flair, but I wasn’t aware if I would be good at it,” smiles Bianca, who went on to learn the techniques from celebrity makeup artist Pati Dubroff whose clientele included Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Dakota Johnson, Gwyneth Paltrow and Priyanka Chopra. By 2010, she started assisting renowned make-up artist Clint Fernandez and in 2011 by word of mouth, she started getting independent assignments.

During her initial journey, she got to work with a lot of sportspersons including Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Leander Paes, Bhaichung Bhutia and Pankaj Advani, before graduating to actors and films such as London Paris New York and Akaash Vani. What makes her one of the most sought-after makeup artists is her USP — a natural skin finish and a luminous texture that became a preferred look by celebrities such as Dia Mirza, Manushi Chhillar, Sania Mirza, Aditi Rao Hydari, Yami Gautam and Huma Qureshi, to name a few.

But among all the stars she has worked with, it is actress Dia Mirza she loves to deck up. “She knows her makeup very well and is a mini makeup artist herself. Her drawers are full of makeup. Initially, she asked me to use her products but over time she gained faith in me. On my second shoot with her she called me and said, ‘For the first time in my life, I don’t want to take my make-up off’,” she beams.

Another of her clients is tennis player Sania Mirza. “She is very homely and humble. I went with her to Singapore for Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) match. I stayed with her, we shopped and chilled together,” recalls Bianca. It was because of Sania that she got to work her magic on veteran tennis player Martina Navratilova.

She finds Manushi Chillar a complete down-to-earth person while “Aditi Rao Hydari is a giggly girl. We have an internal joke which we can’t stop laughing about whenever we meet,” she says.

Bianca is also a destination wedding makeup artist and a go-to person in the corporate world. “I did wedding makeup for Yes Bank CEO Rana Kapoor’s daughter and Aishwarya Nair, daughter of Vivek Nair, Chairman and MD of the Leela Group of Hotels.”

The celebrity makeup artist who just finished working on Miss Diva – 2018, in her free time takes cooking classes. “I love cooking. I think if I would have not made it in makeup, I would have become a chef,” she concludes.
