Woman tells jokes, sings while undergoing surgery to remove brain tumour

Getting a brain tumour surgically removed can be a gruelling experience and laughing through it seems unlikely. But there have been incidents when patients surprised people by playing music while undergoing surgery.

Now the video of a teacher and amateur comedian singing and telling jokes during a nine hour surgery is doing the rounds. The woman was kept alive during the procedure and so she decided to keep telling jokes when the staff were amused with a comment.

Sarah-May Philo is also a trained opera singer and made up songs about the staff around her when a speech therapist asked her to try singing. The experience came as an ice breaker for Sarah as she felt she was in a café with friends.

Informed about her illness only after waking up from a seizure last year, Sarah also jokingly named her tumour Rodger. She has managed to return to work after the operation and is now engaged to be married to her partner.
