Italian woman marries herself in elaborate ceremony after being unable to find a soulmate
A lot of people across the globe have elaborate plans for their wedding as they wait for or seek the right person to spend their lives with. But one question that is also a cause of anxiety to many is what if we never find the one?
A 40-year-old woman from Italy was probably among several people who eagerly wait for the love of their life, but then decided she didn’t want to wait anymore. Fitness instructor Laura Mesi said ‘I do’ to herself in a magnificent ceremony two years after she got the idea.
Laura came up with the plan after her 12-year-long relationship ended and told her family that she will marry herself if she couldn’t find her soulmate by the time she is 40. Laura spent Rs 7.5 lakh on her wedding and organised everything from the stunning wedding gown to a three-tier wedding cake.
She became the first woman to marry herself in Italy although the country doesn’t legally recognise such unions. Laura didn’t stop at a wedding, as she also went for a honeymoon to Egypt by herself.
Marrying herself is about love and acceptance towards oneself for Laura, and while she would be happy to find a man who she has a future with, her happiness doesn’t depend on it. She told Telegraph that all of us can have a fairytale even without a prince and we must first love ourselves.
