Get the spooky look right
As Halloween enthusiasts are busy with last minute shopping for their costumes, one of the major aspects continuously on their mind is the makeup. It is not enough to be a vampire or a scary clown anymore. This Halloween, let us help you take your spooky look a notch higher with ideas such as ripped torn skin injury and few DIY (Do It Yourself) techniques.
Talking about the latest trend, Kanika Chanda, owner of a make-up and hair academy, says, “The new and affordable trends for Halloween is ‘Ripped torn skin injury’, which looks way too impressive and scary than other Halloween looks. In this, you can do normal makeup just the way you like but still, have the wow factor with gore. In this get-up, a part of your face looks ripped off and exposes some raw flesh. The best part is that you can wear your comfy clothes and not be stuck in any superhero outfit all night.”
Aashmeen Munjaal, director of Star Salon and Academy, shares, “For this year’s Halloween, there are various makeup trends that are gaining momentum — be it the wounded face or the up-side-down face. From the contemporary ideas of Halloween brides and zipped face to the traditional looks of zombies, all are in demand. But the creativity is not just restricted to the face. Eyes are a canvas and the smashed eye look is a hit. Prosthetics and creativity are the two main factors that will definitely give you a unique look.”
Neeleshwari Basak, the owner of Worldwide Institute of Grooming and Pageants, feels that the crux of the matter is to create attraction through negative excitement. “To generate a horrifying effect you don’t have to have prosthetic make-up, where you use special colours and paint your body with various shades and all kinds of other shocking colours. You can pick your own kohl and apply black or a dark purple lipstick on your lips to get that horrifying look,” shares Basak, adding, “You can create an effect of pulling your eyes or lips out or even a crease and cracking effect on your skin. It’s all about being creative and having fun with your make-up. If you want, you can get the prosthetic kit at any make-up salon, if you don’t have it then be creative with your own make-up kit.”
“Halloween is a great time to get in a playful mood and show off your rebellious, adventurous and ‘devilish’ (mischievous) side,” says Bharti Taneja Makeup expert and founder and director Alps Beauty Group. “While in the West, it is all about ‘who looks the ugliest, scariest’, in India we avoid looking too frightening. However, there are ways to look scary and stunning. Something that is neither too simple nor too spine-chilling. For costume ideas, Game of Thrones is full of inspiration. From ‘children of the forest’ to ‘nightwalkers’, you can play as per your choice and comfort. Back home, you will find a lot of ideas from Indian TV shows. Be it the Naagins with their sensuous costumes or Chuidails with their knee-long hair and soul-piercing kohl-eyes, the Indian avatars are not just frightening, they look fabulous too.” Looks like there is no dearth of ideas to look your scary best this Halloween.
