Manoj Tiwari breaks bread with slumdwellers

Mr Tiwari said that fire mishaps wreck the lives of jhuggi dwellers in Delhi government time and again.

New Delhi: In a show of gratitude to the newer chunk of voters, Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party chief Manoj Tiwari had breakfast with the slum residents of Samaypur Badli on Sunday.

Before steering his party to a victory in the April 23 civic polls, Mr Tiwari campaigned extensively in slum clusters across the city. The Northeast Delhi MP started his new job by spending several nights at slum houses in the city. It was an attempt by the Bharatiya Janata Party to win a vote-base that traditionally has remained with the Congress and briefly with the less than five-year-old Aam Aadmi Party.

For the Sunday breakfast, the Delhi BJP president was joined in by Leader of Opposition in Delhi assembly Manoj Tiwari and councillor Preety Agarwal. He had breakfast with a family in Surajpur slum in Northwest Dehi’s Samaypur Badli.

Later in the day, he met the victims of last night’s fire at a ragpickers’ jhuggi basti at Begumpur Village in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar. Last night’s fire had rendered over 50 slum dwellers homeless.

Mr Tiwari said that fire mishaps wreck the lives of jhuggi dwellers in Delhi government time and again.

“The Congress or the Aam Aadmi Party just offer compensations to absolve them of legal and moral responsibility to better their lives,” he said and added that the welfare of slum dwellers is only possible by the implementation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheme of home for all by 2022.
