New Delhi: The Delhi police will buy 600 two-wheelers to guard the streets of the capital following an increase in crime against woman and street crime, including chain snatching and eve teasing among others.

The fleet will be launched very soon in the city. The all women bike fleet will patrol across the city.

According to the police, more than 1,200 women constables will be engaged in patrolling duty. While patrolling, the women constables will be armed with modern weapons to deal with miscreants. The All-women fleet will also have first-aid boxes to provide help to any road accident victim.

It may be recalled the police have an all women fleet in PCR vans. Apolice officer said paired patrolling will also be introduced. During peak evening hours, when most women are on the roads, four women constables will ride on two bikes to man the streets.

As a pilot project, the south district had started the women patrolling on bikes in Malviya Nagar last year. According to a senior police officer, the all women police fleet will be implemented in the first week of November.

“The all women police fleet will be implemented in the first week of November in the national capital. The women constables will help keep snatchers and miscreants at bay,” said Delhi police spokesperson Deependra Pathak.
